O'Neil She was in her high-school year during the auditions, volunteered for the third season of Canadian Idol during the first months of 2005. She was able to make it into the top hundred round following the judges' praise for her vocal ability. O'Neil received high praise by the judges but suffered major losses during the top 10 weeks and Top 9 of the Finals, when she fell to the lowest 3 and 2 spots respectively. They were stunned by the decision, and told the audience that Melissa was the best contestant. O'Neil's performances were so good that she never placed in the lower three again. O'Neil, Rex Goudie and Werner delivered two spectacular performances in September 2005. Werner reportedly said that reports would claim that O'Neil beat Goudie and was the 3rd Canadian Idol. She was the first female, and the youngest winner in history of the show. O'Neil's Canadian Idol triumph was declared by the Premier Paul Martin immediately.
