The family lived in Buenos Aires until she was six years old, and then moved to the Victoria part of London. Taylor-Joy explains that moving to London was traumatizing and that she didn't study English in order to prevent returning to Argentina. The school she attended had to be changed to Northlands in order to attend Hill House. After that, she attended Queen's Gate School and studied ballet, while also performing in school's productions. She quit the high school aged 16 in order to concentrate on her acting career. Taylor-Joy was always aware that she wanted to become an actor. This was achieved when Sarah Doukas founder of Storm Management provided Taylor-Joy with a modelling job.
